Sharpen your drawing skills this summer, in this 6-week course for beginning to intermediate artists! Learn skills and strategies for developing your artistry with support from licensed art educator, published illustrator and juried member of the Hamilton County Artists’ Association, Heather Ray Boelke.
Learn beginning art skills in observation, color theory and composition. Create realistic drawings, and develop illustrative ideas. Shop the supply list or purchase an art supply kit when you register. This course is designed for older teens and adults. Class is hosted by the Westfield Washington Library, from 6:00 to 7:30 PM on Wednesdays. SAVE %15 if you register by May 1st!
Supply List:
- Your choice of drawing sketchbook 5″x7″ to 6″x9″ (drawing, mixed media, or Bristol paper)
- Drawing pencil set (including 2H, HB, B, 2B, 4B, 6B at minimum)
- White vinyl eraser (plus optional kneaded eraser)
- Travel pencil sharpener
- Prismacolor Scholar colored pencils (set of 12)
- Micron pen size 03
If you purchase a supply kit at check out, materials will be distributed the first day of class.

This registration is for the full 6-week course and includes consultation access to HRay for the duration of the course. A 24-hour cancellation notice is required before the first class for refund. Any classes cancelled due to unforeseen circumstances will be rescheduled. A full refund will be provided to all registrants if the course is cancelled by the instructor. I have wanted to take a drawing class for a while and this was perfect. The fact that Heather is both a professional educator and artist makes her exceptionally well qualified to teach this class. We had specific concepts that we learned each week with accompanying exercises/activities and then were provided with additional exercises to continue to refine our skills after class. A really great experience that taught me a lot about drawing and made me more confident in my drawing ability!

I found the Summer Sketchbook Series to be highly instructive course, especially for someone like me who had no drawing experience at all. Heather was a kind and helpful instructor, who made my learning enjoyable. I was a nervous learner, but Heather helped us all to feel comfortable with the process and our own progress. I have since decided to further my skills in drawing and have ordered a text to facilitate that. I would love to see a sketchbook series that covers even more material and for a longer period of time. I think the 1.5 hour class sessions were exactly right, though.
